Pacific Halibut

Size: Can be up to 8 feet in length and 500+ pounds

Life span: 55 years

Identification: Flat fish, green/brown skin, eyes on one side, white on the other side. Females are much larger than male halibut.

Other names: Barn Door (large halibut), Chickens (small halibut)

Coho

Size: 24 - 30 inches, 8-12 pounds

Identification: White gums. Bright silver with small black spots on the back and on the upper lobe of the fin.

Spawning: Adults of both sexes have dark backs and heads with maroon to reddish sides.

Run time: Late July - September

Humpy

Size: 20 - 25 inches, 3.5 - 5 pounds

Identification: Green/blue with silvery sides and large black spots on back and all over tail. Very small scales.

Spawning: Males turn brown/black with a bright white belly. Females turn an olive green with dusky bars or patches. Males will develop a very large hump, and hooked jaws called a kype.

Run time: Late June - August

Sockeye

Size: 18-31 inches, 4-15 pounds

Identification: Black gums. Bluish green/dark gray skin, black irregular spotting on the back and dorsal fins

Spawning: Bodies turn brilliant red and their heads take on a greenish color. Breeding-age males develop a humped back and hooked jaws filled with tiny, visible teeth

Run time: June - July

Chum Salmon

Size: 24-28 inches, 10-13 pounds

Identification: Metallic bluish-green with highly forked tails. The tail also has silver streaks along the fin rays.

Spawning: Males turn a dark olive color with wavy vertical stripes, a hooked snout and large canine-like teeth. Females become brown/grey colored with a broad dark horizontal bar.

Run time: July - September

King Salmon

Size: 36 inches, 30+ pounds

Identification: Black gums. Bluish green/dark gray skin, black irregular spotting on the back and dorsal fins

Spawning: Males take on a dark olive coloration with vertical stripes, a hooked snout and large canine-like teeth.

Run time: June, with some local fish year round
